Hot GoldMine Promo

If you own virtually any competitive product (Outlook, ACT, Siebel, SalesLogix …) you can exchange it, license for license, for a mere pittance right now. This special promotion, just announced from FrontRange is not for those who sit and agonize over decisions. The offer is only good through the end of September.

If you have a copy of Outlook (and if you ever bought Microsoft Office, you have at least one copy) you can buy a copy of GoldMine 5.5 for just $79. You can buy FrontOffice Sales and Marketing for only $349. Service and Support licenses are going for just $695. If you have 20 copies of Outlook or ACT, you can do this 20 times!

This is the best deal we've ever seen. If you're on the fence, just do it. Call us. We have the paperwork to make this happen for you.

What's New at Computer Control

FrontRange's Annual Dealer Conference was held last month in Vail, Colorado. For the first time, International Dealers were competing for the much coveted "Top10" status. And, in fact, four of them qualified, making it much more challenging for a US based dealer to achieve Top10 status. Nevertheless, Computer Control ascended to the #3 spot world-wide for this year. It's our best showing ever and we're proud of our team's commitment.

Last year we were given the Training Center of the Year award. FrontRange has now discontinued that award, so it looks like we're still the reigning training champs, too!

Mike DeLisa has been working on a new web site for Computer Control. Look for it in about two weeks.

And, most importantly …

The New Business Intelligence Division

In the past several years we have been accumulating tools and expertise to add Business Intelligence to GoldMine and to our other CRM products. We are now formally organizing these offerings into a new division of our company.

Business Intelligence, as we know it, combines Business Process Design with the tools to implement those processes within your CRM system.

One of the first processes and Alerts we focused on (for ourselves, since we nearly always eat our own cooking first) were for Sales Managers. Using some new Alert Technology we developed a whole series of procedures and Alerts to notify the Sales Manager whenever any sales forecast was created, or closed, or lost, or changed. This is just one example of how GoldMine can be enhanced to provide additional information to Management for prompt decision making.

Our Business Intelligence Division is also about to release a great new tool to automatically manage and control email blasts. We will be making a formal announcement of this new product shortly.

If you would like to take advantage of our expertise in Process Design (you have to actually have a process before you can automate it) or Alert Technology, just call us. It's new to most people, so we expect to spend a free hour or so reviewing what it can do for you. We are also about to post a paper detailing the system and its benefits on our new web site. You can check out the web site and new documents in about two weeks.

SQL Queries We Love:

Copy and paste any Query you're interested in (if you're not sure how to paste, name and save SQL queries into your GoldMine, call us right away and we'll talk you through the process).

RECORD COUNT
When you changed over from dBase to SQL you lost the ability to see the total number of records under the Summary Tab right?  Well, here's how to get a Record Count:

Select count(*) from contact1

RECORDS WITH NO HISTORY IN THE PAST 30 DAYS
Who's been neglected in the past month?  Here's who:

Select accountno, contact, company from contact1 where accountno not in (select accountno from conthist where (ondate+30)>=getdate())

count user-defineD fields
OK, how much customization have we REALLY done?  This one shows Field Name AND Field Description:

Select count(*) from contudef where FIELD_NAME like "U%"

Sales Person is empty
Whose account is this anyway?  (This one assumes you're tracking the sales rep in Key1):

Select key1,company,contact from contact1 where key1= "" order by company

RECORDS WITH NO E-MAIL (This one was in our last Newsletter)
You'll be shocked at how many of these there are:

Select contact1.accountno, contact1.contact from contact1 where contact1.accountno not in (select contact1.accountno from contact1, contsupp where contact1.accountno=contsupp.accountno and contsupp.contact="E-mail Address")

Composing HTML E-mails in GoldMine

There's been a big buzz about this since the release of 5.0, so we'll try to clear the air a bit. While this seems like a cool thing to do (you know those e-mails you get that look like Web Pages?), it has more than a couple of gotcha's.  First, are you sure your intended recipients can read this? If their e-mail hosting service can't handle this type of e-mail, it may look like garbage with the actual html code displayed in the body of the message.

Also, you must decide if it's OK that the recipient may read the message after he or she has logged off the Internet. If recipients are offline, and have set their browser preferences to NOT cache Images, all those pretty graphics will display as empty boxes with little red x's in the corner.  Of course, all their other HTML e-mails will do the same, so a decision needs to be made.  Also, embedded graphics can very adversely affect the size (and download time) of these messages.

We have developed a methodology to create e-mail's with graphics that are, by design, very small and don't get in the way of speedy, efficient e-mailing. It requires some thought and careful setup, so give us a call and we'll get you throught the pitfalls.

Release 5.7 Coming in November

We're sworn to secrecy but the word is you'll see welcome enhancements in GoldMine 5.7, due out in November.  Some areas to look for new functionality are Organizational Charts, Synchronization and Scheduling.  We'll keep you posted.
