Upgrading from GoldMine Standard Edition:
Promotions Until October 31, 2007
Since April, when FrontRange announced the discontinuation of the Standard Edition of GoldMine, we have gotten many calls from concerned clients. In this short document, I am reviewing those causes for concern and the options as I see them.
First, it's important for you to know which Edition you’ve actually got. If you are in GoldMine you can go to either the License Manager or to Help/About and you will see a License or Serial Number. If that number (sometimes many different numbers if you added licenses at various times) begins with a "D" then you have the Standard Edition. If you see Licenses that begin with an "E" then you have the Corporate Edition and you can probably stop reading right now.
Here are the reasons you should actually be concerned:
- FrontRange is no longer developing for the Standard version.
- FrontRange is no longer selling Standard Licenses and those dealers clever enough to collect a little stockpile are probably running out by now. This is a problem for those who may need to add more licenses in the future.
- The Standard Edition is not really compatible with the Vista Operating System, which you may not yet have, but the forces of nature as well as Microsoft will eventually drag you kicking and screaming to it.
FrontRange is trying to encourage Standard Edition users to upgrade to either Corporate, Premium or Enterprise. Premium (aka GoldMine 8) is probably the direction most Standard Edition users should consider. This is the latest release and is the primary focus of development at FrontRange.
Currently, and through the end of October, FrontRange has a promotion going on to make this upgrade a little more palatable. Each license can be upgraded to Premium for $449 plus FrontRange's required $139 per year per license Maintenance and Support fee. Normally, Premium costs $695 per user.
Each Premium license includes GoldSync so you don't need to worry about upgrading any GoldSync licenses you've got. There are other benefits as well. Like Outlook integration, and a new Customer Support module and a much more modern user interface.
Depending on which version of Standard you've got, there may be some work involved in actually installing the upgrade. Older versions of Standard (like 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, etc) require more data manipulation than version 6.7 does, for example. If you've got a version prior to 6.7 you may need some assistance from our team.
You may have also heard that there are other, competitive CRM products out there in the marketplace. We handle several of them, but in every case it’s going to be considerably more effort (translation: time and money) to migrate.

GoldMine Premium Edition Training Now Available
A new course curriculum has been designed specially for Goldmine Premium Edition and is now available in the popular web-based format we've been offering for the past two years. The courseware is particularly useful for those people who used earlier versions of GoldMine but need instruction on navigating the brand new Premium Edition interface. According to Training Director Mike DeLisa, "There's good news from two perspectives. For those very familiar with GoldMine 5.x and 6.x, once you get to the nitty gritty of scheduling activities, searching for contacts and building Filters, the screens are very familiar. And for the new user who has Outlook experience, the news is also very good, since the new navigation layout of Premium Edition will be very easy for the Outlook user to assimilate.  Tech-Talk: The SQL Query Library
Jill Messier (the "Data Diva") was busy designing a batch of custom SQL Queries for a client recently and it occurred to us that many of you would be well-served by reviewing your Reporting and Filtering needs to see if a custom SQL Query would be a good investment.
